Over Stichting SONECA
Stichting SONECA is a national non-profit organizationwith offices in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, andThe Hague. Sinceitsfounding in 1993, theorganization has been committedtotheempowerment of youngpeopleandwomen, with a strong focus on gender equality, socialparticipation, andpolitical engagement. OriginallyestablishedfortheSomali community, SONECA hassinceevolvedinto a broad platform serving diverse migrant andrefugeecommunitiesacrossthe Netherlands.
SONECA operatesproject-basedandthematically, offering a wide range of activitiessuch as trainings, awareness sessions, youth exchanges, cultural events, andpolicy advicetogovernments. Through long-standing partnerships withotherorganizations — includingRadio Dalmar — SONECA has built a powerfulnetwork in theareas of integration, FGM (femalegenitalmutilation) prevention, andrefugee issues.
Radio Dalmar is a vital part of theorganization, broadcastingfrom Rotterdam and The Hague. Through itsnews, educational, andinformative programs, itreaches, engages, andempowerslocalcommunities.
Project Objective
This project aimstoincreaseknowledgeandtheabilityto act in response toracismanddiscriminationwithinrefugeecommunities. The focus lies on:
- Understanding relevant lawsandregulations
- Strengtheningcommunicationandcivicparticipation skills
- Empoweringyoungpeoplebyenhancingtheirself-awareness andself-worth
- Encouraging open dialogueaboutracismanddiscriminationwithintheirowncommunities
- Providing a low-threshold support pointforrefugeeswhoexperiencesuch issues
Target Group
The primary target groupincludes members of refugeecommunities in the Randstad region, with a broadernationalreachthrough radio and online platforms. The project targets bothyouthandadults, with special attention toyoungpeople, who are more vulnerableduringidentity development and more frequentlyexposedtodiscrimination. Sinceexisting information channelsand support systems oftenfailtoreachthemeffectively, a targetedandaccessible approach is essential.
